MAÏA wants to know what you’re seeking, thinking, drinking… because she’s just getting by, understanding that the world is a lie. Let the stars align and listen to her presence which is submerged in truth.

Melbourne-based Borrowed Cassettes has twisted Groeni‘s Rearing. Peep it.

After listening to Eggglub’s Freaky Feeling (above) I knew that I wanted more. Fortunately, Chilean-based No Problema Tapes have answered my problem by bundling it with seven other tracks on the ΔKTR / Eggglub Split Mixtape. It’s mad.
Listen/buy it right here. It’s only three bucks. Chump change, right?

Our friends ALTA seem to blow minds with every release.

It’s been a year since Spazzkid released Desire. The album plays like Bibio soaked in chillwave, and while it’s a little different to what we normally post around here, its always good to treat your ears to some pop-ish music once and awhile.

I had been sleeping on this lush release from youngteam, released a month ago, Headspace sounds like the result of throwing bunch of great sounding synths, vocal snippets, percussive sounds and guitar into some sort of big musical cyclotron (if only it was that easy). Also it’s in 432hz tuning- (read this if you want to know more about that).
Head over to youngteam‘s soundcloud for more.

Su Na has gone and done a remix of Mincha‘s Lovin’. The track has already enjoyed some popularity thanks to SeventhhWonder‘s remix from earlier this month.

I didn’t realise, but I had my speakers turned up really, really far when I hit play on the intro track of Treehouse so my first reaction was HOLY CRAP THAT BASS IS LOUD! But even with my stupidity getting in the way, it made for an enriching listen.
For a bit of background, Dr. Bones is a future beat producer out of NYC (I’m sure regular readers will enjoy his two free EPs to be found here and here) while Marigold is a Boston-based vocalist. The pair have created a layered electronic-folky type sound full of them delicious organic samples. My heart was pounding a mile a minute after being startled by the initial volume I had my speakers set to (again, my fault- not theirs), but luckily the album is beautifully relaxing.

Colourwaves has released some new work and it’s brought us out of hiding. World Warp contains a poignant commentary on consumer culture and human’s creative spirituality.

There’s somewhat of a global effort behind this collaboration between local Melbourne hero Amin Payne, Germany-based Ben Bada Boom and French label Cascade Records. A well-deserved sexy video for a sexy song; pushing the limits of what the YouTube monkeys will allow.
Amin and Ben have a talent for making beats which stand on their own as ‘songs’ rather than simplistic instrumentals- really bringing the craft to a new level of creativity and musicianship.

I’ve suddenly found myself jumping head-first back into that jazzy brand of trip-hop which I love so much; Hubert Daviz dropped this smooth remix of Grand Puba‘s A Little of This around a year ago and I’m digging it.

This is going to be all over the blogosphere but how could I resist. Local superstar Chet Faker (who skyrocketed to stardom with his amazing cover of Blackstreet’s No Diggity) teaming up with the totally dope Kilo Kish (check out K+ if you missed the boat on her).
I caught a bit of Chet Faker‘s set at Splendour in the Grass (major Aussie music festival) and his fan-base ranged from drunk teens to groovy middle-aged couples. A testament to the brilliant accessibility of his music.

At age 19, Thomas Guida aka. Leaks is the youngest member of the Fuck the Radio Collective. His De Landa EP (out on the free digital label Absent Fever) was put out late May, and is holding up to be one of my favourite releases of the year (check out the brilliant I’m Glad You’re Still Here). He’s finally got a release party together with supports from Audego, Surf Dad and fellow brilliant Fuck the Radio artists Alta.
If you are in Melbourne on the 19th, you can head down to Ding Dong lounge, where Guida will be giving away 100 limited physical copies of the EP for free, and also playing for you live. As you can imagine, I have seen him live before and just a hint: it’s a good gig to bring a special guy/girl friend along to for holding hands and looking into each-other’s eyes n shit.
OR just go with your 100% nothing suss platonic mates and chill out to some soothing beats either way.

One of my favourite local young Melbourne artists, Wintercoats released the soothing EP Heartful in April as a ‘name your price’ download via Bandcamp.
Wintercoats will be performing at the Yes Please 2nd Birthday Party happening in Melbourne on July 18 at The Worker’s Club with live sets in the band room from artists on the Yes Please artists I’lls, Fishing, Wintercoats, Guerre and The Townhouses. Plus DJ sets in the front bar from Oscar Key Sung, Andras Fox, Simon Winkler, Tim Shiel and Adam Christou.
