French Trip-Hopper Somepling released his free EP Properly Packed for free on Wednesday and I’ve finally gotten the chance to give it a proper listen through.
Fans of DJ Shadow and other alternative hip-hop beats producers will appreciate the overall soul of Somepling‘s work; the magic that can be created on an Akai MPC2000 is unreal when put into the correct music junkie’s hands. It is no wonder Somepling has garnered support from so many artists and labels.
Properly Packed is a collection of tracks that have been given away for free on his Soundcloud here and there, packed into one neat package. You can give the full album a download off of his Bandcamp page, where the option is to donate a measly $5 or just grab it for free off the provided mediafire link.

Amai is yet another trip-hot beatmaker from Los Angeles. I don’t know what it is about that city, but it sure has an amazing knack of producing great experimental electronica artists. Fans of Flying Lotus, Daedelus, Nosaj Thing etc. will recognise the familiar LA tinge that Amai has in his rhythms and odd-ball sample re-triggering.
Counting Raindrops is a jazzy trip-hop piece that is cemented nicely together by smooth tenor saxophone, LA trip-hop style drum rhythms and neatly chopped up female vocals that fit ever-so nicely into place together. Download it here, or find the entire EP for fee at his bandcamp page.

Repeat Pattern (previously posted here) has released a new digital album with one of my favourite indie labels, Cascade Records. The album is available for a name-your-price download on http://cascaderecords.bandcamp.com/album/08-09
It’s a neat acid-jazz cross trip-hop record, I highly recommend you go grab it… and while your at it, why not support the artist with a few bucks?
PS: I’ll be posting another mixtape for new years, so stay tuned for Jan 1st

So I’ve already blogged about UK-based electronic beat-maker Mute Speaker, but Zeros & Ones just shuffled on my iTunes and I’m in-love. Grab the album Smart Bomb off of his bandcamp page– you will not regret it.

Ok, after countless hours of Skyrim (I play for the music, I swear) I’m back to posting.
Oudies is from Chile, he produces some groovy hip-hop instrumentals with lots of interesting samples- from recordings of the ocean to old jazz records. I’m really digging his stuff at the moment.
This track Jijopers has one of those cool slap-rattle things which name escapes me at the moment punctuating the broken-beat that jangles along with some simplistically pretty synths. It’s a short one too, so if you are left wanting more- check out his soundcloud or his free album on bandcamp.

A noctuary is like a diary that you keep only about what happens at night. A ‘night journal’ of sorts. I wonder if Bonobo created this amazing trip-hop piece, with the title Noctuary in-mind.
The track has it’s own personality, like that of a noir film set in Tokyo… Bonobo‘s use of mysterious jazzy piano embellishments and sexy cymbal grooves makes Noctuary a real pleasurable listen.
Of-course, this can be expected from one of Ninja Tune‘s most highly respected artists… and with 191,000+ Facebook fans, a high quality track is no great surprise. Definitely worth adding his music to your collection…

Repeat Pattern has put out a real trip-hop gem with Bruce Lee Poster.
The beat moves along in a jittery, head-bob inducing way comparable with Bibio‘s Fire Ant. The flute sample and heavy sidechain compression work together with the warm lo-fi bass and vocal stabs to make Bruce Lee Poster a trip-hop track you’ll find yourself coming back to time and time again. It’s a pity it’s only 1:50 long 😦

Sick Lebowski is another undiscovered-as-yet producer from The Netherlands.
Disappear Into Your Dreams is a cool fusion of bassy-electronic trip-hop with a clear hip-hop rhythmic influence. Creepy vocals are a must as always with this type of track, and they are pulled off with flawless implementation in this case.

Fabled Enemies are the best find I’ve had in awhile. With only 222 soundcloud followers, I implore you to watch this space.
From The Netherlands, the duo have produced some TIGHT dubstep/trip-hoppy/glitch music. It’s probably the freshest sound I’ve heard since… a.bliss.abyss. I don’t know, it’s a pretty huge call.
The Prophecy begins with… oh I don’t even want to start describing it. It’s cool, then it gets cooler, then it gets really cool… then it gets to the point where you need to change your underwear.
Give it a listen already!
And while you are at it, check out their Soundcloud.
(yes I’m tagging it under brilliant)

Signed to Pretty Lights’ own record label, it’s not really a surprise that if you are a fan of the former, Grammatik will suit your tastes perfectly. Chilled trip-hop beats with funky jazz vocal samples spicing things up in Is It Over is something reminiscent of Pretty Lights’ tracks such as Finally Moving or the previously posted Something’s Wrong.
Definatley worth a listen if you love Pretty Lights or are completely new to the style- either way, Grammatik is still great, and you can support him by downloading his album (FOR FREE) off of the Pretty Lights Music Record Label site.
Ofcourse you can try him out first with a download from here 😀

Hooverphonic were one of my first experiences with trip-hop. I can’t believe I’ve neglected to post them, the trouble is that I just want to post all their music.
They released a new album in 2010 that moved away from their trip-hop roots towards a pop/rock type sound that kind of disappointed me, because tracks like 2Wicky just sounded like they had so much more depth to them. However, I highly recommend you listen to their earlier albums The Magnificent Tree and A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular.

Firstly, I’m sorry to take a week off from blogging, I’ll make it up to you, a post every day this week!
Kicking it off we have Distuition with an interesting style of trip-hop beats, endless re-triggering of samples over a chilled rhythm takes advantage of your brains ‘funk’ cortex, making tracks like Oneder an interesting listen. To me, it’s just begging for some rapping over the top to transform it into the full alternative hip-hop package.
Visit the bandcamp page, there are pick-your-price downloads of all of Distuition‘s works.

And as usual I offer you a download to add to your Fuck the Radio collection.

Tokimonsta is one of those girls who are beautiful, pretty and cute all at the same time. I mean, just look at her!
Similarly, her music is mysterious, playful and mellow all at the same time. This Los Angeles producer is another prime example of the trip-hop sample-based tunes coming out of the underground LA scene. Her Cosmic Intoxication EP was released April this year and contains some amazing stuff reminiscent of Daedelus and Nosaj Thing’s sound. Aching Nodes brings together some glitchy beats with some other elements that let you relax, but not let your musical guard down. Give it a download:
