Embassy’s re-work of Bear//Face’s Taste My Sad is the perfect way to kick off posting for the new year.

Can you believe it’s October already? only two more months and we’ll be celebrating New Years all over again, another batch of birthdays, ups and downs and what-nots to look forward to.
It was last year, about a month ago, Evenings released his Latley LP to the world via bandcamp. It’s a beautiful blend of shoegaze, trip-hop and what-not. I’ve only just discovered it now and I can not believe it didn’t sooner; it’s a stand-out album, full of playful experimentation and emotional input. Lo-Vélo is the fourth track on the album, coming right after a short-eight second interlude of found-sound. As a music blogger, you know I love to write- but every now and then it’s best to just shut up and let the music speak for itself- this is one of those times.
Check out the rest of the album here.

It’s happening, I’m giving Sorrow the BRILLIANT tag of BRILLIANCE here on Fuck the Radio for his exquisitely amazing 1988. The dark, melancholic sounds and smooth, flowing nature of the track come together to create an emotionally stimulating peice of electronic music. Everything hits the nail on the head perfectly here, from the percussive sounds to the ambient swirls of noise that drift on overhead. Not many tracks get tagged brilliant, but this one has thoroughly earned it.

This beautiful release from Giraffage late last year slipped by me. Embarking on a tour of Europe alongside XXYYXX in sept/october, the floaty synths, glitchy, chopped samples and sprinkles of tight 808 percussion bring the best out of dream pop’s potential as a widely appreciated genre.
Visible‘s romanticised vocals build in a climactic side-chained beat which is simply blissful. For fans of Clams Casino, XXYYXX and Sleep Over. The whole album is available for a pick-your price download with no minimum:

Woot woot, the second Fuck the Radio party was a success, with acts Yosemite, Flash Forest and Sub Dapper killing it on-stage with a surprise set by exciting up-and comers Willowbeats.
The hangover has subsided and the blogging must go on. To bring us all down from our parties induced-highs I present you an ethereal track of purified dreaminess.
Patterns In Plastic already had a wonderfully fulfilling sound on their hands, but for me it was Sina. who brought the wonderful to marvellous with a divine remix of Sleepyhead.
I’ve been playing way too much Diablo 3 latley, so the entire list of of the adjectives I know at the moment is like looking up ‘evil’ in the Thesaurus. But if you were to look at the ‘antonym’ section of the thesaurus for ‘evil’, you’d probably find some neat descriptive words for this track…
…what a bizarre review…

It’s a Friday- which means I’m going to need some help surviving Saturday morning. While the largest container in the house filled with water is normally the way to go- I’ll supplement it with some enchanterDown.
That perfect blend of textural bliss and subtle rhythm, Knocking At My Door is a relaxing tune that doesn’t demand too much to please you. In-fact, I seem to have stumbled upon a goldmine with the Lion’s Memorial Pool collective, putting out some real fresh dreamwave- worth checking out.
He’s also a part of the delightful list of artists that Grappa Frisbee Records has released, and I can’t miss the opportunity to shoot love around in all directions. Check out his free release with them from back in February.

AND we are back to regular posting schedule. What better way to kick off the week by welcoming all the new members of the Fuck the Radio family to an old favourite; A Bliss Abyss.
The North-Carolina based musician/psycho friend of mine has up and left his friends and family to hike the Appalachian trail solo with little resources to seek solitude. It’s some serious Into the Wild movie style shit, and standing at roughly 2,180 miles- the Appalachian trail passes through no less than 14 American states, and is one of the longest marked hiking trails in the world. Only one-quarter of those who attempt to hike the entire trail succeed. The journey typically takes six months to complete.
Anyway, enough of the geography lesson, you’re here for music; and A Bliss Abyss is one of the most talented and brilliant producers I have ever met. He released his EP for free download off of his website and is surviving entirely on the donations of fans.
The Moksha EP itself is one of the most beautifully crafted records of the year. I can’t recommend it more highly. An amazing blend of electronic music combined with guitar, topped off with brilliant production skills and an ear for incredible detail- this is something to have on repeat for quite a while. Grab it for free off of his website:

If music genres were the same as film genres, then Subvader‘s Forever Leaving EP would be right up there as a Science-Fiction masterpiece.
The whole EP is very well-crafted and atmospheric. Rather than a mish-mash of various tracks, the whole thing has a particular tone and theme but manages to express it in ways that do not get boring. I would have ordered the tracks differently, having it open with the swirling synth arpeggios of The Cave and then having it move in deeper- but there’s no use needling down criticism on small stuff like that when you have such a great overall piece of work.

Such talent can and has come into fruition with the discovery of the ‘bedroom producer’ age of music. Age, wealth and status is no longer an issue, as demonstrated by the BRILLIANTLY (that’s right everyone! TAGGING THIS ONE AS BRILLIANT) chilled sounds of XXYYXX, an under-age talent out of Orlando Florida who; just like a Japanese baby playing Through the Fire and Flames on ukulele will shatter your dreams of ever being a good guitarist; his magnificent music will shatter any dreams you had of ever being a super-talented producer (what an obscure reference, even for me).
About You was released late march earlier this year, but the video above came out a few days ago and is pretty fucking awesome itself. The rest of XXYYXX albums are also as consistently amazing and well worth checking out if you dig this lo-fi mellow electronica. Get on it so you can be all like “I liked him before he was cool” because seriously, people will cream themselves over this stuff.

When it comes to ambient music there’s only really 3 ways that you can go when naming a track… there’s the Autechre method of mashing the keyboard with your fist and calling your new masterpiece something like ‘Derfg’, there’s the somewhat pompous method of naming it something like ‘Tulips Dancing in the Winter Air’ and then there’s the method that David Bonas has chosen, simply assigning a number to the track which, when paired with a genre results in something like Ambient 2. While it may not be much in terms of creative titling, it gets the job done.
It may be an oldie, but it’s still an underground gem. Just needed this to cure my morning-after-a-big-night feeling.

Everyone has bizzare rituals; whether it be conditioning thier hair before they shampoo, purposely wearing socks inside out- or something a little more involved, like sitting in the same seat at the same bar every Friday after work and ordering the same drink. We all have little things that we like to keep to ourselves- it’s what keeps us sane. For me, every Sunday night after I get home from the radio station, I pour myself a small glass of red wine, turn the TV onto the ‘classic movies’ channel (where they play all the old black-and white films), mute it, and listen to music.
Kwala‘s album Shabang may be the perfect soundtrack for these moments. As wine slowly stains my lips and the suave-looking detective in the movie lights up his cigar, Kwala‘s expansive pads and smooth down-tempo rhythms fill the full aural spectrum. Not demanding enough to be abrasive or distracting, yet far from being boring or repetitive- the best way to describe Kwala‘s music would be something like ‘post-trip-hop’. Excuse my ‘typical-music-blogger-making-up-meaningless-genres-to-avoid-actually-describing-the-music’, but being superfluous when it comes to these things does nothing justice. Plus I want to enjoy my wine.
The full album is available here for a pick-your-price download and it comes with my highest recommendation:
<edit: It seems to have disappeared, but there is still some great stuff up there>

Reminiscent of Oliver Tank, Wintercoats and even Steffaloo, the Bristol-based glo-fi artist Stumbleine is consistently superb, and with the recent release of a new album off of bandcamp, now is as good a time as ever to post the relaxing ambient chillwave peice Bloom released a little over a year ago within the pick-your price All For Your Smile.

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a soothing ambient track, and coincidentally I’m very hung-over today, so now would be as good a time as ever right?
Dreams West has created a real textural beauty with Distant. Reminiscent of Aphex Twin-style Selected Ambient Works, the sounds in Distant create a vast aural soundscape… Falling in short at 2.13, I would prefer the track to have lasted longer, however it’s more like splashing your face with cold water on a hot day- a quick and satisfying refreshment.
The come-down is a smooth fade out which isn’t jarring. You could even say that Distant calmly rests your mind and primes you for more listening pleasure (follow it with something like this).

Tal Ronen‘s expressive guitar solo is accompanied by a smooth synth pad and deep kick drum to create the looming chillout piece Deep Thinking. When the drum kit rhythm kicks in, you are treated to 30 seconds of classical rock goodness- until it dissipates back into nothing. A great piece of relaxing work that yearns to last a little longer.
