The Hip-Hop cats will appreciate this banging SP-1200 shit from Broke/. Some simple laid back jazzy hip-hop loops.
Check out this and this if you are keen on more like this.

It’s been a year since Spazzkid released Desire. The album plays like Bibio soaked in chillwave, and while it’s a little different to what we normally post around here, its always good to treat your ears to some pop-ish music once and awhile.

Su Na has gone and done a remix of Mincha‘s Lovin’. The track has already enjoyed some popularity thanks to SeventhhWonder‘s remix from earlier this month.

So very tempted to make this blog all about the dope shit coming out of Melbourne, there’d be more than enough to post about.
Ex-Bristol turned Melbourne local Titus 12 had his Karnak EP unleashed by Uncomfortable Beats just before our long weekend. Filled with both familiar sounds and what appear to be some quirky field recordings, the production behind Karnak is a tight mix of dub and future beat.

Fuck the Radio Collective picked up Melbourne’s FLOW around 9 months ago after peeping an amazing live set. His first album has finally hit the Internet for your listening pleasure. If described in one word? I’d use something like ‘trippy’. Melbourne is surely delivering on the electronic beat goodness lately.

Bee Ampersand remixes fellow Fuck the Radio Collective members Willow Beats‘ track Blue into a simplistic chilled house track.

Colourwaves has released some new work and it’s brought us out of hiding. World Warp contains a poignant commentary on consumer culture and human’s creative spirituality.

There’s somewhat of a global effort behind this collaboration between local Melbourne hero Amin Payne, Germany-based Ben Bada Boom and French label Cascade Records. A well-deserved sexy video for a sexy song; pushing the limits of what the YouTube monkeys will allow.
Amin and Ben have a talent for making beats which stand on their own as ‘songs’ rather than simplistic instrumentals- really bringing the craft to a new level of creativity and musicianship.

Fuck the Radio fans usually have their ears to the underground for the exciting things happening around Melbourne so the upcoming Paradise music festival may not be news to some. But for a quick refresher; running from November 29 to December 1st in the beautiful Lake Mountain area, Paradise is an independent BYO festival showcasing some of Australia’s most exciting musical acts (including a hefty chuck of the Fuck the Radio Collective and our friends from around town).
Festivals, while often marketing themselves on the premise of being a ‘party’ to connect with fellow music fans, can often-times be a quite impersonal experience. You rock up, are herded through the gates like livestock by apathetic volunteers; avoiding the over-zealous security guards, battle with the crowds to see a tiny dot on the stage and then head off home again exhausted. Paradise is a scaled-back version of the typical festival setting. With crowds just big enough to create that special festival energy, but not too huge as to become an ordeal. You can also expect to see the artists themselves enjoying the music of the other acts right next to you, not locked away in some VIP-fortress enjoying their $300 rider of grey-goose and ice tea.
I caught up with boss-man Andre who has been hard at work putting together his idea of an ideal music festival in-between working his full-time day job (he’s funding the entire thing from his own pocket) to see what it takes for somebody to say “fuck that, I’m going to do my OWN festival” and actually pull it off.
He describes the line-up as containing two loose categories of ‘indie bands’ and ‘producer/djs’, split up across two different stages. Choosing acts was not based around a particular genre or scene, or even on who sells the most tickets; Andre describes his method as “we just started booking bands who we thought were good” (so simple, yet so brilliant). The result is a 100% Australian line-up of contemporary independent music. The aspect of an entirely local line-up is part of the charm behind Paradise, Andre points out that international does not mean ‘better’, and that Melbourne festivals have often excluded the plethora of talent in our own backyard.
Andre’s Picks (in no order):
– Naminé
Really Love his new album
– Client Liason
I feel like there’s a sense of humour in their music and performances that I share
– Glass Towers
Great new album
– LUCIANBLOMKAMP
I’m yet to see him live, but I love his music
– Deja
For their song called The Outside
My Picks (in no order):
I’ve seen each of these acts multiple times, but I still can’t get enough
– Oisima
– Alta
– Squarehead
– Leaks
– Silent Jay

Outlier Recordings has a catalogue filled with goodness. Jimmy Pé’s Fairy Tale EP is the label’s 55th release and includes two remastered versions of older tracks Mexico and Don Barzini (both really dope in their own right) with the fantastic new Fairy Tale remixed by Anthony Drawn, Je$u$, Mute Speaker and oddlogic. Do not ignore this release; it’s a great find.

I’ve suddenly found myself jumping head-first back into that jazzy brand of trip-hop which I love so much; Hubert Daviz dropped this smooth remix of Grand Puba‘s A Little of This around a year ago and I’m digging it.

At age 19, Thomas Guida aka. Leaks is the youngest member of the Fuck the Radio Collective. His De Landa EP (out on the free digital label Absent Fever) was put out late May, and is holding up to be one of my favourite releases of the year (check out the brilliant I’m Glad You’re Still Here). He’s finally got a release party together with supports from Audego, Surf Dad and fellow brilliant Fuck the Radio artists Alta.
If you are in Melbourne on the 19th, you can head down to Ding Dong lounge, where Guida will be giving away 100 limited physical copies of the EP for free, and also playing for you live. As you can imagine, I have seen him live before and just a hint: it’s a good gig to bring a special guy/girl friend along to for holding hands and looking into each-other’s eyes n shit.
OR just go with your 100% nothing suss platonic mates and chill out to some soothing beats either way.

One of my favourite local young Melbourne artists, Wintercoats released the soothing EP Heartful in April as a ‘name your price’ download via Bandcamp.
Wintercoats will be performing at the Yes Please 2nd Birthday Party happening in Melbourne on July 18 at The Worker’s Club with live sets in the band room from artists on the Yes Please artists I’lls, Fishing, Wintercoats, Guerre and The Townhouses. Plus DJ sets in the front bar from Oscar Key Sung, Andras Fox, Simon Winkler, Tim Shiel and Adam Christou.
