At a gig last night I was discussing one of the main reasons I gravitate towards trip-hop and future-beat is because it has the largest variety of sounds available to it- more so than any other type of music.
|w∆lla| C‘s T∆mborimOdyssey EP is a perfect example- weaving chopped up acoustic guitar, synths, percussion dancing through samba rhythms and intricate aural textures together into a straight up dose of head-nodding syrup. Drink up!

I don’t usually recommend mixes but it’s a Sunday and this one is too good. Casey Borchert, hailing from Minneapolis in the U.S of A has presented us with a gorgeous Arctic Dub mix on Neonlogic World Radio. It’s an absorbing ambient/techno-dub affair. Excellent for thinking, studying and sleeping. Put it on and get to it.

Check out Borchert’s SoundCloud and the Arctic Dub Website.

deedontcare is a phantom. I don’t know where he lives or what his name is, but I do know that he’s one fucking dope beatmaker. The above song (how it is a “rough copy” I will never understand) should be enough proof. Check out his SoundCloud here. Go from the top. It’s all quality.

No doubt, Zürich-based Delakeyz makes one of a kind music; strangely reflective, nostalgic and groovy. The vibes are strong here – you can’t shake these house beats.

Get his Organic & Smooth EP for free on Bandcamp right here, it’s pretty important.

Kushrenada blends a creepy-circus tune into a chilled out beat throughout RSOD/WET Dreams. If you close your eyes and listen you’ll find yourself in a dreamscape surrounded by Japanese amine girls (Kushrenada does admit to being a yuri enthusiast in his soundcloud description… and if you don’t know what that means, best not google it). The mysterious stranger/producer/dj as he calls himself is based “out of Texas sorta” and keeps himself mostly anonymous.
For something stronger and even more mysterious check out Kushrenda’s t e a r s o f m a n a a n

The Network – When Ur Down [EP] by alex

The Network
, pseudonym of beat-maker Jesse Rintoul, recently dropped his first EP – after listening not once, not twice, but thrice, my verdict is in: it’s beautiful.

Presented as a 15-minute continuous mix, When Ur Down seamlessly blends between tracks, enveloping them in dark ambience and the familiar vinyl distortion you’d hear in a Burial releaseMore than anything, the sense of atmosphere Rintoul evokes is so tangible and real that you won’t have any trouble wandering off into the deep, dark recesses of your consciousness.

If you’re anything like me, it’ll keep resonating even after you’ve stopped listening – that said, given the nature of this release, the saying “you get out what you put in” couldn’t be more applicable. Take your time with it.

Speaking of… if you haven’t already started listening, do yourself a favour; sit down in the comfiest seat you can find, plug in your headphones, close your eyes and put it on.  This EP works in all the right ways – it’s visceral, emotional and a true reflection on the day and age in which we live.

In other words, soak up The Network’s When Ur Down; it’s something you won’t forget any time soon.

Words: Alex McDiarmid
