MAÏA wants to know what you’re seeking, thinking, drinking… because she’s just getting by, understanding that the world is a lie. Let the stars align and listen to her presence which is submerged in truth.

サンクチュアリ  which translates to Sanctuary in Katakana, combines soft vocals and some psychedelic electric guitar chords which create an overall ethereal vibe to the track. Rareware works from Kentucky and mixes many Japanese inspired tracks which explore dreamy and sometimes video-game-like sound vibrations. This particular tracks reminds me of ‘Teletubies’ emerging from the soil.

The Network – When Ur Down [EP] by alex

The Network
, pseudonym of beat-maker Jesse Rintoul, recently dropped his first EP – after listening not once, not twice, but thrice, my verdict is in: it’s beautiful.

Presented as a 15-minute continuous mix, When Ur Down seamlessly blends between tracks, enveloping them in dark ambience and the familiar vinyl distortion you’d hear in a Burial releaseMore than anything, the sense of atmosphere Rintoul evokes is so tangible and real that you won’t have any trouble wandering off into the deep, dark recesses of your consciousness.

If you’re anything like me, it’ll keep resonating even after you’ve stopped listening – that said, given the nature of this release, the saying “you get out what you put in” couldn’t be more applicable. Take your time with it.

Speaking of… if you haven’t already started listening, do yourself a favour; sit down in the comfiest seat you can find, plug in your headphones, close your eyes and put it on.  This EP works in all the right ways – it’s visceral, emotional and a true reflection on the day and age in which we live.

In other words, soak up The Network’s When Ur Down; it’s something you won’t forget any time soon.

Leaks De Landa EP Launch by Chris

At age 19, Thomas Guida aka. Leaks is the youngest member of the Fuck the Radio Collective. His De Landa EP (out on the free digital label Absent Fever) was put out late May, and is holding up to be one of my favourite releases of the year (check out the brilliant I’m Glad You’re Still Here). He’s finally got a release party together with supports from Audego, Surf Dad and fellow brilliant Fuck the Radio artists Alta.

If you are in Melbourne on the 19th, you can head down to Ding Dong lounge, where Guida will be giving away 100 limited physical copies of the EP for free, and also playing for you live. As you can imagine, I have seen him live before and just a hint: it’s a good gig to bring a special guy/girl friend along to for holding hands and looking into each-other’s eyes n shit.

OR just go with your 100% nothing suss platonic mates and chill out to some soothing beats either way.

Leaks – I’m Glad You’re Still Here by Chris

Fuck the Radio Collective homeboy Leaks went quiet for a bit while travelling.

Good to have him back. This track gets my BRILLIANCE tag.

Dylan Hill – The Fall by Chris

Melbourne-based Dylan Hill shows a great deal of heart in his productions, with the same mellowing touch of say, Leaks or even Holy Other.

The Fall blends recorded guitar with some fluttery electronic instrumentation, some soft-to the touch percussive samples and delicate vocals- a style that’s rapidly developing it’s own little place in the greater scheme of electronic music through the likes of Oliver Tank, the aforementioned Leaks and many more.

Ellie Herring – Touch Point by Chris

Why is it that electronic music seems to be a boys club? I can rattle off a few female artists, sure; Rainbow ChanTokimonsta, BoyfriendSleep ∞ Over… but when it comes down to it, the majority of guys out there producing beats are just that- guys!

Ellie Herring‘s atmospheric downtempo pieces brink on the experimental- a Heligoland era- Massive Attack- or eerie evil cousin of UNKLE. Something about Defect puts me in the mindset of a mouldy tunnel- the vocal line teeters precariously on the edge of ‘creepy’, yet manages to avoid being un-nerving. Touch Point is over a year-old now, off of a release on Racecar Productions. I feel it’s more accessible than her newer tracks, while staying true to her dark sound. It’s also available for free download off of her Soundcloud which is always a bonus. If you are feeling like something a little more comforting- her Boards of Canada (Damp Heart Mix) is nice to have on in the background (also on Soundcloud).

Patterns In Plastic – Sleepyhead (Sina. remix) by Chris

Woot woot, the second Fuck the Radio party was a success, with acts Yosemite, Flash Forest and Sub Dapper killing it on-stage with a surprise set by exciting up-and comers Willowbeats.

The hangover has subsided and the blogging must go on. To bring us all down from our parties induced-highs I present you an ethereal track of purified dreaminess.

Patterns In Plastic already had a wonderfully fulfilling sound on their hands, but for me it was Sina. who brought the wonderful  to marvellous with a divine remix of Sleepyhead.

I’ve been playing way too much Diablo 3 latley, so the entire list of of the adjectives I know at the moment is like looking up ‘evil’ in the Thesaurus. But if you were to look at the ‘antonym’ section of the thesaurus for ‘evil’, you’d probably find some neat descriptive words for this track…

…what a bizarre review…

enchanterDown – Knocking At My Door by Chris

It’s a Friday- which means I’m going to need some help surviving Saturday morning. While the largest container in the house filled with water is normally the way to go-  I’ll supplement it with some enchanterDown.

That perfect blend of textural bliss and subtle rhythm, Knocking At My Door is a relaxing tune that doesn’t demand too much to please you. In-fact, I seem to have stumbled upon a goldmine with the Lion’s Memorial Pool collective, putting out some real fresh dreamwave- worth checking out.

He’s also a part of the delightful list of artists that Grappa Frisbee Records has released, and I can’t miss the opportunity to shoot love around in all directions. Check out his free release with them from back in February.

TAWÐ – NorthWestern Passages EP by Chris

Canadian producer TAWD released his Northwestern Passages EP this time last month and I’ve finally gotten the chance to give it a listen-through. As the perfect counterpart for the dreamy Sleep ∞ Over or Boy Friend style chillwave records, TAWD hits the nail right on the head with his own label of ‘chillgaze’. Synth-heavy and atmospheric, much of TAWD‘s EP induces feelings of soaring through the pink sky over beautiful landscapes. When that last synth trail slowly fades to silence at the end of the EP’s last track Eight Years, it’s like you’ve finally waved goodbye and disappeared into the horizon riding on a magical cloud.

David Bonas – Ambient 2 by Chris

When it comes to ambient music there’s only really 3 ways that you can go when naming a track… there’s the Autechre method of mashing the keyboard with your fist and calling your new masterpiece something like ‘Derfg’, there’s the somewhat pompous method of naming it something like ‘Tulips Dancing in the Winter Air’ and then there’s the method that David Bonas has chosen, simply assigning a number to the track which, when paired with a genre results in something like Ambient 2. While it may not be much in terms of creative titling, it gets the job done.

It may be an oldie, but it’s still an underground gem. Just needed this to cure my morning-after-a-big-night feeling.

Reminiscent of Oliver TankWintercoats and even Steffaloo, the Bristol-based glo-fi artist Stumbleine is consistently superband with the recent release of a new album off of bandcamp, now is as good a time as ever to post the relaxing ambient chillwave peice Bloom released a little over a year ago within the pick-your price All For Your Smile.

Dreams West – Distant by Chris

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a soothing ambient track, and coincidentally I’m very hung-over today, so now would be as good a time as ever right?

Dreams West has created a real textural beauty with Distant. Reminiscent of Aphex Twin-style Selected Ambient Works, the sounds in Distant create a vast aural soundscape… Falling in short at 2.13, I would prefer the track to have lasted longer, however it’s more like splashing your face with cold water on a hot day- a quick and satisfying refreshment.

The come-down is a smooth fade out which isn’t jarring. You could even say that Distant calmly rests your mind and primes you for more listening pleasure (follow it with something like this).
