Flow – A Soul’s Journey by Chris

Fuck the Radio Collective experimental beatsmith Flow has teamed up with our visual artist friend Chronic Sans from the amazing Melbourne-based Spacewalk collective to put together a clip for the wonky track A Soul’s Journey.

You can catch both of them in action, as well as a huge line-up of other great locals for Spacewalk’s Spring Break Party free across 2 venues.Image

Leaks De Landa EP Launch by Chris

At age 19, Thomas Guida aka. Leaks is the youngest member of the Fuck the Radio Collective. His De Landa EP (out on the free digital label Absent Fever) was put out late May, and is holding up to be one of my favourite releases of the year (check out the brilliant I’m Glad You’re Still Here). He’s finally got a release party together with supports from Audego, Surf Dad and fellow brilliant Fuck the Radio artists Alta.

If you are in Melbourne on the 19th, you can head down to Ding Dong lounge, where Guida will be giving away 100 limited physical copies of the EP for free, and also playing for you live. As you can imagine, I have seen him live before and just a hint: it’s a good gig to bring a special guy/girl friend along to for holding hands and looking into each-other’s eyes n shit.

OR just go with your 100% nothing suss platonic mates and chill out to some soothing beats either way.

Fuck the Radio Collective artist Flash Forest is heading off to the United States soon and next Friday there’s going to be a big party to see him off.

Support from his mates The Zanes and The Mighty Boys as well as fellow Fuck the Radio producer/dj Bee Ampersand.

If you read this blog- I’m going to make a very well-educated guess that you’ll fall in-love with his music if you haven’t already. Hit play below, then click attending on the Facebook event above to show some love.

Fuck the Radio Party by Chris

It is with huge pleasure that I (finally) announce the FUCK THE RADIO monthly party in Melbourne this week on this blog.

If you live in Melbourne, Australia, come on down to the intimate Soft Belly Bar and share a drink with the family. You’ll know that everyone around you has amazing taste in music!

Willowbeats is an act who hasn’t appeared on this blog yet because I’ve been saving them for something really special. Finally that something special is here- but don’t take my word for it, check ’em out here:

Squarehead is a great psychedelic/progressive act with some really beautiful tracks. I’m stoked to have him play live:

Bee Ampersand is a familiar name to long-time readers, mixing all of the much-adored mix-tapes.

You can find more infor about the event on the Facebook page here:

And even read about it on Acclaim Magazine’s website here:

Unfortunately, I will be taking the remainder of the week off from posting music to the blog. I know I have slowed my post-rate lately, but that was all due to the work that had to be put into this event to make sure it happened in the best way possible. After this weekend posts will return to their usual rate. There are bigger and better things on their way, this party is just the beginning…

Elizabeth Rose – Ready by Chris

Thought I’d hit you up with something slightly different today; Elizabeth Rose is doing an Aussie tour, and since she’s already established herself as a local favourite on the Summer festival circuit, the news has a-lot of people excited. If you are keen you might want to check out the article I wrote for Purple Sneakers.

The video for her January single titled Ready got released earlier this month. It has lots of colours and seizure-inducing effects- and although I’m not usually a fan of videos that look like someone has vomited rainbows onto film and animated it- the music makes the clip well worth it in this case. Her electronic-pop fusion kind of nods towards the stylings of La Roux, but without sounding like 100 kittens drowning in a pool of acid. Check it.

Fuck the Radio is now on Facebook! And what better way to celebrate then release another famed Fuck the Radio Mixtape!

Beef up your iTunes/iPod/whatever with this 20-track glorified DJ set by Bee Ampersand. And while you are at it, give the Facebook page a like!

Beastie Boys – Paul Revere by Chris

The Beastie Boys‘ debut hip-hop album License to Ill is my top 3 hip-hop albums of all time. I know this may seem a little out-of place on this blog, but Paul Revere is just too good for people to be missing out on. The whole reverse-beat it has going is fucking great, and the lyrics are entertaining to say the least… a spaghetti-western type story that reads like a play, each Beastie having his own role in the tale, here’s my favorite verse:

“Now, I got the gun, you got the brew

You got two choices of what you can do

It’s not a tough decision as you can see

I can blow you away or you can ride with me”

Ad Rock:

“I said,

I’ll ride with you if you can get me to the border

The sheriff’s after me for what I did to his daughter,

I did it like this, I did it like that

I did it with a whiffleball bat”

The Beastie Boys started as a hardcore punk band, but switched to hip-hop around 1983, and in my books, any hip-hop before ’96 earns a green tick. But the ’86 (or was it early ’87?) Paul Revere  (much like the rest of License to Ill) is a track that could have been released yesterday and still be fresh. Take a listen and you’ll see what I mean:

John Arnold – Cabin Fever by Chris

Cabin Fever is an acid jazz track with a steady latin-esque beat that could have you dancing, or alternatively sitting back sipping cocktails.

The choice is yours… because Cabin Fever doesn’t mind either way.

Doctor Rockit – This is the End by Chris

Doctor Rockit is hailed a pioneer in using ‘organic’ (read: not electronic) sounds in predominately electronic music. I picked up his album Indoor Fireworks by chance and I must admit, it is a challenging listen. However the last track of the album deserves to be played during the last call of every bar, imagine you and your mates arm in arm, swishing your pints around in drunken glory.

A perfect finish to my week-long daily posting marathon – I’ll see you Monday 😀
