This is going to be all over the blogosphere but how could I resist. Local superstar Chet Faker (who skyrocketed to stardom with his amazing cover of Blackstreet’s No Diggity) teaming up with the totally dope Kilo Kish (check out K+ if you missed the boat on her).
I caught a bit of Chet Faker‘s set at Splendour in the Grass (major Aussie music festival) and his fan-base ranged from drunk teens to groovy middle-aged couples. A testament to the brilliant accessibility of his music.

Can you believe it’s October already? only two more months and we’ll be celebrating New Years all over again, another batch of birthdays, ups and downs and what-nots to look forward to.
It was last year, about a month ago, Evenings released his Latley LP to the world via bandcamp. It’s a beautiful blend of shoegaze, trip-hop and what-not. I’ve only just discovered it now and I can not believe it didn’t sooner; it’s a stand-out album, full of playful experimentation and emotional input. Lo-Vélo is the fourth track on the album, coming right after a short-eight second interlude of found-sound. As a music blogger, you know I love to write- but every now and then it’s best to just shut up and let the music speak for itself- this is one of those times.

It’s happening, I’m giving Sorrow the BRILLIANT tag of BRILLIANCE here on Fuck the Radio for his exquisitely amazing 1988. The dark, melancholic sounds and smooth, flowing nature of the track come together to create an emotionally stimulating peice of electronic music. Everything hits the nail on the head perfectly here, from the percussive sounds to the ambient swirls of noise that drift on overhead. Not many tracks get tagged brilliant, but this one has thoroughly earned it.

Why is it that electronic music seems to be a boys club? I can rattle off a few female artists, sure; Rainbow Chan, Tokimonsta, Boyfriend, Sleep ∞ Over… but when it comes down to it, the majority of guys out there producing beats are just that- guys!
Ellie Herring‘s atmospheric downtempo pieces brink on the experimental- a Heligoland era- Massive Attack- or eerie evil cousin of UNKLE. Something about Defect puts me in the mindset of a mouldy tunnel- the vocal line teeters precariously on the edge of ‘creepy’, yet manages to avoid being un-nerving. Touch Point is over a year-old now, off of a release on Racecar Productions. I feel it’s more accessible than her newer tracks, while staying true to her dark sound. It’s also available for free download off of her Soundcloud which is always a bonus. If you are feeling like something a little more comforting- her Boards of Canada (Damp Heart Mix) is nice to have on in the background (also on Soundcloud).

Some VERY deep sounds from Melbourne-based Wabz, it seems the bass is bottomless- extending to unfathomably distant depths. The percussive sounds are organic and satisfyingly crisp sounding. There’s some amazing atmospheric work going on here, worth checking out.

Something a little different, The Wednesday Experiment was formed in a whirlwind of creative excitement from the discovery of a busker’s beautiful voice.
A unique blend of down-tempo and somewhat experimental sounds with Emily’s beautiful jazzy vocals causes The Wednesday Experiment to play like a more accessible and beautiful Massive Attack– Emily’s vocals are something really special, especially considering this recording is one of her first times singing into a microphone… before that she was just busking in Brunswick.
