Amai is yet another trip-hot beatmaker from Los Angeles. I don’t know what it is about that city, but it sure has an amazing knack of producing great experimental electronica artists. Fans of Flying Lotus, Daedelus, Nosaj Thing etc. will recognise the familiar LA tinge that Amai has in his rhythms and odd-ball sample re-triggering.
Counting Raindrops is a jazzy trip-hop piece that is cemented nicely together by smooth tenor saxophone, LA trip-hop style drum rhythms and neatly chopped up female vocals that fit ever-so nicely into place together. Download it here, or find the entire EP for fee at his bandcamp page.

Will Wiesenfeld has operated under numerous aliases, including his most famous monkier Baths and his older project [Post-Foetus].
Geotic is an ambient/minimal side-project by Wiesenfeld that has seen the multiple free releases on here. His most recent release- the EP entitled Bless the Self is what I’m posting about this fine summery night.
In Australia, we have summer during Christmas time, and so rather than associating the festive season with snowmen and ice-skating- it’s all about sitting back on the beach with your mates under the hot summer sun… Or enjoying a sunny Christmas bbq with a beer in hand. If you were to capture the feeling of Christmas in Australia on a super-8 film (to the young kids… that means something like the ‘hipstermatic’ app on your iPhone), Bless the Self would be a suitable soundtrack, joyous and colourful, filled with smiling girls wearing sunglasses laughing happily on the sandy beach. This probably comes from the soothing field-recording of the sound of light wind that Wiesenfeld has utilized throughout the record reminding me of waves at the beach.
The whole album plays through gaplessley- working much like a 14minute long ambient track, it is true that the whole is much greater that the sum of each individual track. In fact, I would hazard a guess and say that Bless the Self began it’s life as one track that was split up into 5 separate parts. For this reason I’m not going to bother posting a Fuck the Radio download, but rather link you to the official download for the EP itself. Don’t worry- it’s still free. Although Geotic appreciates donations made here.

Apologies for the slack posting, I was recovering from my Dubcage launch hangover. As a shameless publicity stunt, every 10 likes we got at http://www.facebook.com/dubcage resulted in us doing a shot of liquor on air… and let me tell you, 22 shots of bourbon was never meant to be consumed by any human. You can catch Dubcage at 10pm Melbourne time Sunday nights at dubcage.com or on 88.3 Southern FM.
Speaking of Melbourne, our artist Thrupence also hails from this part of the world. I’m really digging his soothing electronica, in-between chillwave and ambient with a romantic twist, Thrupence writes nothing on his Soundcloud page description other than I try to make beautiful things – an accomplishment well earned I think. I’d love to post all of his music, but I’ll give you his latest track and leave the link to his Soundcloud for you to explore.

So the past week or so I’ve been hard at work preparing for the launch of two new radio shows on 88.3 Southern FM (A Melbourne radio station). One is a monthly Fuck the Radio Radio Show which will obviously serve as a compliment to this blog, and will also be released as a Soundcloud podcast- so stay tuned for that!
The second is a weekly Dubstep show called Dubcage. Focusing primarily on filthy dubstep/drum and bass/drumstep/grime/moombahcore/trash and whatever other heavy bass music is out there. Check it out here.
Today I’m posting an underground chillstep remix by Mr. Blonde of a track called You Will Never Disapear. It’s not the kind of filthy shit you’ll hear if you listen to the Dubcage radio show, but I think it’s a happy compromise for this blog’s style.
Deep and melodic, You Will Never Disappear is a somewhat lounge-y style ambient bass track with some pretty piano flutterings. A very well produced track.

There’s an inherent irony about having a blog called Fuck the Radio and then expanding it into a radio show- almost equally ironic is posting Polographia‘s 5-track long masterpiece Sunsets, as the record’s opening track Righteous Hit has enjoyed a whole lot of radio play lately- and deservedly so. If you were to delve deeper into the irony of Sunset‘s rlease I suppose you could point out that it was released at midnight, long after the sun had set… But this is where the irony stops; as everything else about Sunsets is ridiculously spot on.
Each of the 5 tracks on the album teem with an euphoric sense of summer-beauty that is held together with such thematic artistry it’d be fair to call Sunsets a concept album rather than a meaningless mish-mash of random tracks. There is nothing but warmth beaming from the eclectic collection sounds used- from dancing flute melodies to nostalgic 80s organ-synths, organic-sounding pads and even some dreamy vocals. There is a slight contemporary electronic-disco feel present throughout the record’s opener Righteous Hit that carries on subtly in all 5 of the tracks; this complements the overall glo-fi/chillwave sounds Polographia have composed with an authentic naturalism which seems too good to be giving away for free.
Speaking of giving away for free- stop reading and pick up your free digital download before they all get snapped up!

Juzhin is a downtempo artist from Moscow putting out some really amazing music… and he’s giving it away for free on Soundcloud, so get in there before the rest of the world discovers him.
Tupona is a pleasurable mix of acoustic sounds. I’m guessing there are samples in there because I can hear the pop and crackle of vinyl. It’s really neat stuff, a laid back fusion of chamber-jazz and ambient; artfully crafted in a way that pushes Jason May (the man behind the music) beyond the negative stigma of ‘producer’ and into the respectful realm of being a ‘musician’. That said, everything is well produced to a very professional quality, and although his soundcloud following may be small, you can safely bet Juzhin is no stranger to being played through the headphones of many.

Repeat Pattern has put out a real trip-hop gem with Bruce Lee Poster.
The beat moves along in a jittery, head-bob inducing way comparable with Bibio‘s Fire Ant. The flute sample and heavy sidechain compression work together with the warm lo-fi bass and vocal stabs to make Bruce Lee Poster a trip-hop track you’ll find yourself coming back to time and time again. It’s a pity it’s only 1:50 long 😦

In a way, I’ve had Skream on Fuck the Radio before nas part of the magnificent Magnetic Man trio with Benga and Artwork.
Midnight Request Line is worlds apart from Flying Into Tokyo however. Many hail it as the dubstep tune that really sparked the fire. Back when dubstep was much more chilled, Midnight Request Line‘s melody haunts over a deep rhythmic percussion line all topped up with Skream’s perfectly crafted sub-bass. Suitably grimey, if the world had music everywhere, this is something you’d hear in a dark alleyway at midnight. I’m tagging it in the ‘brilliant’ section too!

Signed to Pretty Lights’ own record label, it’s not really a surprise that if you are a fan of the former, Grammatik will suit your tastes perfectly. Chilled trip-hop beats with funky jazz vocal samples spicing things up in Is It Over is something reminiscent of Pretty Lights’ tracks such as Finally Moving or the previously posted Something’s Wrong.
Definatley worth a listen if you love Pretty Lights or are completely new to the style- either way, Grammatik is still great, and you can support him by downloading his album (FOR FREE) off of the Pretty Lights Music Record Label site.
Ofcourse you can try him out first with a download from here 😀

Secret Knives are one of those amazing acid rock bands. A real pleasure to listen to. Really organic- if you love groups like Yeysayer, Tame Impala, Animal Collective and The XX then chances are you’ll love the sadly lesser known Secret Knives.

Hooverphonic were one of my first experiences with trip-hop. I can’t believe I’ve neglected to post them, the trouble is that I just want to post all their music.
They released a new album in 2010 that moved away from their trip-hop roots towards a pop/rock type sound that kind of disappointed me, because tracks like 2Wicky just sounded like they had so much more depth to them. However, I highly recommend you listen to their earlier albums The Magnificent Tree and A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular.

I’m not normally a trance fan, but a friend leant me Above & Beyond‘s Group Therapy and I’m actually digging it. a nice mix of chilled electronica and uplifting trance, give the opening track Filmic a listen and see if you can resist trying out the rest of the album.

Why has it taken me so long to post this amazing track? It earns my FUCK THE RADIO Brillance label.
Halfway between dubstep and chillout ambient music, this builds and releases musical tension with pure artistry. Are real pleasure to sit in the dark and simply listen. My one criticism is that it only lasts 4 minutes when I would gladly listen for 15.
Also a good hangover cure.

I had the pleasure of catching Naminé playing a set at one of my favorite bars recently. The live performance is just as amazing as the recorded versions- a feat not easy with this type of music, especially as a solo artist. The parts played on a keyboard and looped through a pedal board. Mellowing vocals and hugley atmospheric synth sounds hold you in the moment throughout the whole EP. A great listen.
