b& has been working on some Ambient tracks as a side project from his usual fidget/electro/dubstep, and it’s a good thing too because this blog hasn’t featured any purely ambient tracks in awhile.
37 O’Clock climaxes into a subtle symphony of hi-hats, oddly syncopated bass riffs and is tied together by soaring synthesized vocals.

Fun lyrics, sexy vocals, great song.

Now I’m no screamo fan, and having a band like Enter Shikari appear on this blog may come as a bit of a surprise. Known mainly for their combination of electronic music and post-hardcore rock, Enter Shikari have a real treat with the first track of their album ‘Take to the Skies’.
Although it serves an an introduction into the album, mixing straight into the angsty screamo song after it; Stand Your Ground is thoughtfully crafted and has a feel of it’s own. Perhaps that’s why it got granted a title unlike the other similar-yet-not-as-great ‘Interlude’ tracks on the album. Disappointingly short (although you can’t complain as it does serve it’s duty as an introduction to the album), Stand Your Ground is worth a listen to ears beyond the land of screamo.

Today we have something special from headline name Deadmau5.
Known predominately for his banging tech-house, Deadmau5 has been releasing more diverse material under the alias ‘fuckmylife’ on Soundcloud for quite some time.
This progressive gem grabbed about 58,275 plays in about 8 hours and counting.

A good tune for the Ides of March no?
I’m an addict to the stuff Ninja Tune releases on their label. This has been heavily played to my ears. There’s a remix of it in the new years mixtape you can find a few posts back.

Here’s a challenge dear reader. Tell me what music is.
Encyclopædia Britannica stated, “while there are no sounds that can be described as inherently unmusical, musicians in each culture have tended to restrict the range of sounds they will admit.”
Autechre push the boundaries with experimentation of the aural landscape, immerse yourself in æ³o and you’ll find yourself able to be moved emotionally by abstract noise. A slight increase of heart rate, soothing oceans of bass and ambiance, Autechre & The Hafler Trio are really able to take control of your body with sound. Perhaps this could be music in it’s most raw, pure form.
Not quite as easily accessible by our brains- we are too accustomed to the musical codes and conventions that most modern musicians adhere to- melody, basslines, tempo, rhythm do not need to exist for something to be music. Now is your chance to get up and really say FUCK THE RADIO because you are able to break through the musical limitations that have been drilled into you and experience music on a whole new level. æ³o is an exceptionally brilliant work of art- using your mind as the canvas and sound as their tool, allow Autechre & The Hafler Trio to move you.

The last of the 4 Aphex Twin tracks displays his acid brilliance in all it’s glory, with Cock-Ver 10.
Acid drums, acid basslines, excitement. I would list it under brilliance, but it’s not quite as accessible to virgin ears. I know it took me awhile to adjust to these sounds, but the experience is rewarding. Every listen is different. Give it a chance and I promise you’ll thank me later. And when you’re done, go back and listen to Avril 14th (you’ll find it a few posts on this blog back) immediately after, it tops it all off perfectly.

Aphex Twin works under his other alias AFX to bring you this mix of Seefeel/Peacock’s Time to Find Me.
Actually his 2nd remix of the track, (the other can be found here) it is a great listen. The drums hold that gritty acid sound while the rest of the tune carries an ambient relaxing feel about it. Soaring female vocals can almost be made out to be saying ‘time to find me’.
Something foreign, yet familiar, a perfect way to ease yourself into Aphex Twin‘s sound.

Continuing our ease into Aphex Twin from yesterday’s post, we have the seemingly impossible to pronounce track- ‘Jynweythek‘
Still not quite acid, still very mellow, Jynweythek introduces your ears into a new concept of sound. Your brain has been so finely adjusted by the radio and the like to hear things in-tune and Jynweythek subtley challenges that.
By no means is it unbearably out of tune, yet Aphex Twin’s use of a subtle yet distinctly odd ‘twang’ to the sound makes for this humble tune to be an interesting listen.

Aphex Twin is one crazy mofo, and his music can be a little difficult to get into, unless you ease yourself in slowly- like a hot spa.
So over the next few days I’m going to post a just a few tracks, progressively more and more acidic until you’re raving on LSD with no pants on to crazy jungle-like drums and 303 basslines.
But let’s start easy. It’s hard to believe Avril 14th is by the same twisted being that created Come to Daddy. This peaceful piano piece will NOT put you to sleep, but have you relax deeply in your chair, eyes closed without a worry in the world.
Tomorrow: Let’s get your ears prepared for something a little more acidy.
HAPPY NEW YEAR RADIO FUCKERS!

So I’m in the US of A right now! I haven’t quite got a chance to see Tron Legacy yet, but I have had a chance to get the OST. Music is so cheap here It’s great! I found a store flogging albums by Fatboy Slim and The Avalanches among many others for $2 a pop! I’m going to have trouble fitting it all in my bag on the way home.
Anyway, back to Tron. The soundtrack of-course, is by electronic gods Daft Punk. I haven’t had the chance to listen to it properly yet, so I may have to eat my own words later. But from during my skim through it, it’s a little disappointing. Before you start flailing wildly in your chair and shout how DARE you insult DAFT PUNK let me explain.
I expected something different. I wanted a soundtrack that broke the barriers of ‘movie music’. I expected Tron to work as something like Interstella 5555. But it seems that Daft Punk have gone the way of Vangelis. The Tron soundtrack could be likened to the music from Blade Runner. Infact, Track #7 entitled Rinzler sounds as if the french electro duo have sampled Vangelis’ famous Blade Runner bass synth sequence.
Don’t me wrong, the album is not at all bad. It’s really quite great. But the fans expecting another Homework or Discovery style album to accompany the filmwill be disappointed. It should be warned that they worked closely with film music composer Joseph Trapanese (who did the score for seasons 3+4 of Dexter) and a-lot of the music is dominated by large orchestral strings and brass doing the typical DUNN DUNNN DUNNNNNNNNNN DRAMATIC EPIC DRAMATIC.
The Daft Punk fans will appreciate tracks like Derezzed, which was widely promoted (and you can see why). But don’t expect the rest of the album to be the same.
Since every boy, girl and their respective pets already has a copy of Derezzed (probably scammed off some low quality youtube downloader), I’m going to hit you up with another one of the more Daft Punk-y tracks from the album- the End Credits.

Tokimonsta is one of those girls who are beautiful, pretty and cute all at the same time. I mean, just look at her!
Similarly, her music is mysterious, playful and mellow all at the same time. This Los Angeles producer is another prime example of the trip-hop sample-based tunes coming out of the underground LA scene. Her Cosmic Intoxication EP was released April this year and contains some amazing stuff reminiscent of Daedelus and Nosaj Thing’s sound. Aching Nodes brings together some glitchy beats with some other elements that let you relax, but not let your musical guard down. Give it a download:

Nosaj Thing‘s album Drift is AMAZING.
Simple as that. go out and get it.
1685/Bach is an electronic, glitchy mesh of beats, synths and other noises.
And here’s a bonus video of a live set he did for KEXP.

SCHOOL IS OUT
I’ll settle back into my regular posting soon, but for now I’m in the mood for some PUNK ROCK
The Stuff Mixtape is half an hour of the best classic punk with a few modern gems thrown in. Topped off by Zack de la Rocha howling how I feel right now.
